Design and Analysis of an Eight-Port Dual-Polarized High-Efficiency Shared-Radiator MIMO Antenna for 5G Mobile Devices

Nowadays, the MIMO can achieve fifth generation (5G) ultra-high capacity, but it is a great challenge for smartphone antenna to good isolation, high efficiency, and other performance in limited space. The paper designed completed an eight-port dual-polarized high-efficiency shared-radiator working 3.5 GHz (3.4–3.6 GHz) 5G mobile devices. two elements are regarded as one building block share radiator, size of radiator 17.1 × mm2 (0.02 λ 0.02 λ, where presents free-space wavelength at GHz). system consists four radiators, edge-to-edge distance between radiators on short side 31.9 mm (0.038 λ), total 150 80 1.6 mm3 (0.176 0.094 0.0019 λ). uses orthogonal placement feed lines produce dual polarization system, resulting isolation without introducing decoupling structures. In addition, reason efficiency explained by common mode (CM) differential model (DM). Finally, simulated results follows: 14 dB; (TE) 75–85%; envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) lower than 0.065; gain 6.5 dB. prototype fabricated tested: better 17 dB, range measured TE 60–75%, ECC 0.045. influence human body also discussed. Overall, proposed has shared with TE, more suitable current stage technology. More importantly, planar structure very simple build easy fabricate substrate.
